Fantastic Support for Tennis AcademyThe Daily Herald, July 15, 1998Written by Brenda Carty
ANGUILLA The Anguilla Tennis Academy is now in its second week and support has been increasing every day. There are now 200 children registered at the camp which is being organized by Mitchelle Lake with assistance from Shawn Romney and Damien Hughes. The groups of children are coached each day at the Webster Park tennis courts.
This week Marc Grenouilleau (picture above) from Marigot, St Martin visited the academy and was most impressed with the number of children and the standard of the coaching. Marc is an experienced player who this year participated in the French Open Championship. He is a coach at the Tennis Club Caraibe and is very keen to start a similar academy in St Martin as he has many courts available to him and he is hoping to attract more support there.
BET (Black Entertainment Television) has been the chief sponsors in Anguilla for the past two years with additional support from local businesses. This year Wilson Sporting Goods also contributed generously by sending nine cases of tennis balls, 54 rackets as well as supplies for the coaches. The Caribbean Sales Manager for Wilson told the Daily Herald "We at Wilson Sporting Goods are thrilled and honoured to be a part of the Anguilla Tennis Academy. Wilson is the number one tennis company in the world, and one of the reasons for our great success has been our focus and attention to grass roots programs. I was so impressed with the effort and organization of Mitchelle Lake and his Academy that I didn’t hesitate to assist him with his needs. It is nice to see a young person so interested in giving something back to his community."
